About Our Walks

We love to share our passion, experience, and knowledge with people who enjoy the outdoors. Please see our "walks and events" page for a full description of each walk type. Each walk is unique and offers a different experience. We hold special walks and activities for children of all ages, adults, seniors, limited-mobility individuals, and people who are specifically looking for a more spiritually healing experience.

You Get A Guided Experience, Not Just a Walk

Our walks are a curated and immersive experiences led by a naturalist with over 30 years of field study, research, and teaching. This is not a casual stroll and it is not a scripted tour. It is an intentional exploration of place — shaped by your interests and guided by deep ecological knowledge. I allow the walk to flow naturally, guided by two things, what we see and your interests.

All walks start with what it means to walk in nature with intention. Some of the topics that have surfaced during my walks are:

  • Glacial geology and coastal dunes formation.

  • Ocean currents

  • Tidal flats.

  • Fungi

  • Forest health

  • Birds, migrations

  • Seasonal changes

  • Human history and natural history

  • Plant identification / edible plants

  • Fungi identification / edible fungi

  • Bird identification and observations

  • Amphibian and reptile identification

  • Many, Many more topics!

The Naturalist Approach

A naturalist does more than identify species. A naturalist reads a landscape, observes natural phenomena, and teaches others how to be good stewards of the land. I will ask you to pay attention to subtle patterns— wind direction in dune grass, shifts in light beneath the canopy, the sound of birds, and the hidden architecture of ecosystems. We use all our senses to experience what nature has to offer.

What Can a Walk Be?

First, a walk must be fun. It should make you feel better. The most underestimated and underrepresented aspects of nature walks is their impact on you physical and mental health. A walk can also be:

  • Intellectually Engaging

  • Memorable

  • Relaxing

  • Tailored

  • Responsive

  • Educational without being academic

  • Immersive without being performative

No two experiences are identical — because the landscape is alive, and your curiosity shapes the journey. You are not simply going for a walk. You are stepping into a guided encounter with the natural world.

Is This Walk Right for You?

Outer Cape Wild Walks are designed for people who enjoy slowing down and experiencing nature with curiosity and attention. These walks are not fast-paced hikes. Instead, they are guided explorations where we take time to observe plants, wildlife, geology, and the hidden details of the Cape’s landscape.

This experience may be a great fit for you if you enjoy:

  • Spending time outdoors in forests, dunes, and coastal environments

  • Learning about the natural history of Cape Cod

  • Asking questions and discovering how ecosystems work

  • Walking at a relaxed pace with frequent stops for observation

  • Photography, birdwatching, or nature journaling

  • Quiet time in nature with a small group

These walks may not be the best fit if you are looking for:

  • A fast-paced fitness hike

  • A long-distance or strenuous hiking experience

  • A guided tour focused primarily on sightseeing rather than natural history

  • An activity where the group moves quickly without stopping

If you enjoy curiosity, conversation, and discovery in the natural world, you will likely find these walks both relaxing and memorable.
